Airline Prices Are Down

ā€¦ But Still Feels Expensive

A recent article by NerdWallet states that airline prices are down this year to the level of pre-pandemic.

But it still feels so expensive to travel šŸ„“Ā

Why?

They equate it to 3 Main Factors:

  1. Fees with airlines have gone up! Want a window seat? Want priority boarding? Want to bring a checked bag? All of these have gone up compared to prior years

  2. Later Booking. People have been historically booking closer to their departure date than prior meaning the prices have increased accordingly.

  3. Travel to Europe has increased. With more demand to have bigger ā€œbucket listā€ trips to Europe the prices of economy is averaging $1,200 per ticket.

What I think:

  • Although these are all good reasons I also think that airlines have been doing some ā€œsurge pricingā€ based on demand. There have been numerous times that if I search for a flight within the airline app then close out of the search for whatever reason (maybe I needed to find travel credit number or needed to confirm dates) and go back into the same flight the price has already increased.

  • There also seems to be fewer flight options in my opinion in order to ā€œfill the busā€ leading to increased pricing. Several flights for work travel has made me book Business Select tickets on Southwest weeks in advance due to no longer having any wanna-get-aways.

šŸ¤” What are your thoughts? Do you feel that prices are expensive despite reports saying they have gone down?

If You Are:

āœ… Feeling overwhelmed by travel prices

āœ… Frustrated by the lack of understanding of credit card points

āœ… Tired of feeling like you arenā€™t experiencing travel and destinations like you deserve

Southwest Airline

Limited Time Companion Pass

Iā€™m currently sitting on a southwest flight as I write this.

And we are (as my mother would say) ā€œstuffed like a can of sardinesā€.

and someone just ripped one so Iā€™m really not in the mood šŸ’©

But I figured you might want to know about the limited time Companion Pass you can earn with Southwest.

Right now if you book a trip to Hawaii and fly between June 1 and July 31 you will earn a Companion Pass from Oct 5 to Nov 15.

But you have to book by 5/24/2024 (Today!)

And it has to be 2 one ways or a round trip ticket.

You can register here by going to Southwest and heading over to the Offers Section.

So why care about Companion pass?

Well basically what it means is you can choose a person to be your ā€œcompanionā€ and they fly with you for nearly free.

You just need to pay taxes and fees which are $5.60 for domestic flights.

My Upcoming Plans

A Yacht in The South of France

If you follow my Instagram account you may have seen some of my plans for the upcoming month in my stories.

One which includes a yacht in the South of France.

Something Iā€™ve been looking forward to for some time.

Ever since I went to Montenegro 2 years back and rented a yacht Iā€™ve made it sort of a priority to try and spend a day on the water whenever in Europe.

Thereā€™s just something magical about being on a boat in some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Of course renting a yacht to sail from Cannes to Monaco for a day comes with a price.

A price we could only say yes to if we didnā€™t have other insane travel expenses (like hotels or flights).

You seeā€¦ we booked all 3 rooms and all 6 plane tickets using points.

Which ended up saving us $34,811

This gives us the ability to spend a little more on our actual experiences while on vacationā€¦

Like yachts and Michelin star restaurants šŸ˜‰
